It can't be denied but Chinese influence has it made it to Sentai shows thus far. Here are those shows that showed Chinese influence as a theme or not as a theme. Maskman had heavy Chinese influence with the area of martial arts. The beginning is clearly having a LOT of Chinese martial arts influence including the concept of chi energy, an element later used in Dairanger. Five Yellow used Chinese style Kung Fu in most of her battles. Dairanger- from suit design to mecha to enemies, it's very Chinese perhaps the most Chinese show in Super Sentai. The concept of aura power is increased and most of the show used Chinese mythology. The fighting styles in Dairanger are probably the ones close to kung fu cinema nonetheless. Even the end was much too Chinese. If one notices the Gorma, they are very Chinese and almost every monster is very Chinese in its appearance. I honestly have read it somewhere that Takumi Hirose that he didn't like some of the changes in Super Sentai. I don't think he's referring to the new mecha or plotlines, I think it had to do some of them were just far too campy for him. Maybe what he was talking about was a lack of civilian action scenes. I think newer Sentai series like Dekaranger and Boukenger were okay, even Magiranger despite it being somewhat campy was respectable, perhaps it was during 2003 that he felt Abaranger had lesser civilian action scenes so he stated he wasn't going to act in Super Sentai that it took for the worse. Like the glory of Tranza for him, Sentai fell down. How far do I agree with him going for the worse? Not really maybe except for Go-onger. Carranger was trying to be funny but the series had an unusual twist. His last appearance in tokusatsu was as a guest in Kamen Rider Agito in episodes 49-50 as Shirikawa. If there were any cockpits that I believe I liked least are the stand-up cockpits. Why? Well first and foremost, the robots were always prone to falling down and it's harder to keep steady while holding on to something and two, it's really stressful for a vehicle to just keep standing up. Here are those "infamous" stand up cockpits: The Dairangers were the first to use the stand up cockpit. I wonder what they did every time the robot tumbled or especially when they use the Ultimate Armor Chi Palace sky drop attack? The Kakurangers had the weirdest- they stood in their separate cockpits. It was later used in... Gingaman also had the same with Kakuranger.... As for Timeranger, this one dizzies me to think the robot changes position all the time so I assume their feet are fastened. Super Sentai also had some really hot female villains. Maskman's "Prince" Igam is really hot. You should have seen where her little secret got blown off by the "crucified" Maskman team. Unlike other villains, she had a second chance and became a nun to atone for her sins. Dordora from Fiveman (the woman in gold) was kind of hot. Maria was a really pretty. She was forcibly turned evil but her real self came out thus why Radiguet killed her. Lami the wife of Griforther was also hot. In fact she's hotter than Ptera Ranger. Please don't mistake her to be the same actress who played Dordora in Fiveman. The Hanarangers were pretty hot themselves. In fact just in case you didn't notice, Keiko Hayase is there too! Zonette of Carranger was really a very hot and sexy villain but not as hot as Lami in Zyuranger. Lila was hot in Timeranger but her Time Force counterpart is hotter. Super Sentai has the weirdest moment of Japanese speaking aliens whether hero or villain. What? Japanese speaking aliens? Seriously that's very funny. In Japan, their shows present Japanese as the universal language instead of English. While you had English speaking aliens in American TV, Japan had Japanese speaking aliens. There were NO interpreters either. From all the Super Sentai series, Dekaranger (that show reminds me of Star Wars and Star Trek to some point) took this concept the farthest because ALL the planets spoke in Japanese while maintaining the dramatic atmosphere that made the show go on as a hit series. Theoretically Japanese folktales are put into consideration. Like what? Well there was Princess Kaguya a plot later added into Boukenger- which talked about the princess that lived in another world. After the Shinkenger-Decade crossover, it seems that a LOT of fans may start to argue whether or not the Kamen Riders and Sentai teams operate within their own continuity or not. Actually we had Goranger vs. JAKQ that made it so but later, it was apparently retconned. Then again, they come together. So here's what I think is different between Kamen Rider and Super Sentai: The rather obvious: Kamen Rider started as a single hero and Super Sentai with the idea of "if one is a hit, why not a team" and thus Goranger was born. Also the Kamen Riders had friends that were more of the morale and occassionally helped fight with them but none of them could really beat a monster. There were NO giant robots in Kamen Rider. Here are some of the metal hero actors and actresses I know who also made appearances in Super Sentai: Kenji Ohba who was the leading guy Retsu Ichijoji in Gavan was a regular in Battle Fever J as Battle Kenya and in Denziman as Denziblue. He also did his own stunts at times. Before Bioman, Yuki Yajima was also known as Lovely Helen in Sharivan (correction as of August 11, 2009 thanks Vincent Jones) who was from episode 38-44. Her character was killed off because she joined Bioman. But later, she quit acting for good. Soga Machiko appeared in Gavan in one episode as a Double Girl and as the main villain in Spielban as the much more vile Queen Pandora. Hikaru Kurosaki whose toku icon was Jaspion later appeared in Bioman episode 35-36. If I'm not wrong, he married Yuko Asuka the woman who played as Farrah. Hiroshi Watari who acted as Den Iga/Sharivan later made an appearance in Boukenger as a guest- as the father of Eiji Takaoka. Note: Any corrections are welcome.
