Poll Announcement for March 14, 2010

Image
Here are the polls that I'm about to close now. Hee hee. I've got to master the time zone system between here and there. :-P Who do you think is hotter? 37/56 voted for Mei, 19/56 voted for Kimberly. Heh I'm on the Kimberly side even if I'm Oriental in ethnicity. Which Sentai should Saban have used for MMPR? We have 32/55 votes for Turboranger, 23/55 for Jetman. Concerning Goseiger here are some of the questions: Which series had a better premiere between Shinkenger and Goseiger? 29/56 voted for Goseiger, 27/48 voted for Shinkenger. Do you want Goseiger to have a Power Rangers version? Funny that in the past when I asked about Shinkenger, many said no with a good support of 181 votes and 98 votes said yes this time, 39/56 said yes and 26/65 said no. Weird huh. Does Goseiger have a Final Fantasy feel? 35/48 said yes, 13/48 said no. How do you feel about Shozo Izuka voicing Great King Monsdrake? 21/40 think it's awesome, 18/40 think it's okay and 1/40 th...

Tommy's Four Sentai Counterparts

Image
I really can't help to think but Tommy from four seasons of Power Rangers has gotten redundant. In fact, I can't help but think of the fact that these four characters kind of form my own "dream Sentai" for Dice-O which I would put Riki/Red Turbo as the leader who I think was the only Sentai character kind of close to Tommy in personality or maybe Big One. By the way, I didn't include Kyosuke Jinnai because Tommy was later replaced by TJ and in Forever Red, TJ appeared alongside Tommy with different powers but he may be a good team leader for the Dice-O team and call it "Tommy Five". :-P The first character to be used for Tommy's powers was the late Burai of Zyuranger. However he was a more vicious bad-ass than Tommy ever was. Besides, I kind of find Tommy and Jason's battle to be just too random compared to Geki and Burai as estranged brothers. Sadly he died when his life force got all used up. The younger Burai returned in Dairanger as anoth...

Liveman's Would've Been Members and Go-onger's Go-on Wings

Image
Valsag Fantasy wrote on his blog on the would've been Liveman team (Note: Other types of fiction included). In Liveman episode one, we had two potential Livemen members Takuji Yano and Mari Aikawa who sadly got killed at the start. They could've have been part of the Liveman team. Takuji Yano could have been the first violet ranger but the idea never materialized until Gekiranger where a rather awesome character namely Gou Fukami was built from that concept. Their deaths left tears in the eyes of Megumi/Blue Dolphin in Liveman. This may have inspired the creation of Gem and Gemma who were supposedly dead but had survived. Later on in Go-onger which I consider to be another Liveman tribute despite it being lighthearted, these two rather cool siblings Hiruto and Mio Suto were added. They were known as the Go-on Wings. Instead of being as comedic as most of the team, the two were kind of bad-ass rangers themselves. Both of them are ESP much like Jasmine/Deka Yellow in ...

Go-onger vs. RPM: Mixed Reactions

Image
The thing is due to what many PR as well as Sentai fans think that Disney has done to PR that may have caused some disputes between Go-onger and RPM. However I usually think it's based on cultural bias and nothing more. :-P Anyway here was where Go-onger and RPM drew the line in some ways. Now a comparison: Go-onger was a lighthearted Sentai which MANY serious fans labeled to be as campy if not campier than Power Rangers. The series itself was kind of nothing special for me at the start but a closer look, it does have its awesome moments and even some sense comes out or even teary moments despite the series being funny. It even had a rather apocalyptic finale despite the series' theme of being lighthearted which affected not only Earth but also the Braneworlds that surrounded them. As for me, I think Go-onger may be a good retreat from dark and serious Sentai but the finale is otherwise way too serious for a series not meant to be that way. On the other hand, Power Rangers...

Datas of Goseiger

Image
Goseiger episode 4 was a little hilarious with this new type of assistant android. Well Super Sentai had its own list of android assistants , I think it's about time a new one comes along. At first he appears to be an arcade machine but he was sent by the "Zordon" (whose corporeal form was based on Barza of Zyuranger) of the series, Gosei Head, and he's sent there to help warn the stranded Goseigers in fighting the Warstar empire and also as means of communicating with their mentor. Anyway I kind of feel like Goseiger is trying to feel more like the 80s Sentai with this robot since there weren't much android assistants later on. In the 90s we only had Fiveman's Arthur G6 who was also battle equipment and in 2000s, we had TAC and Robota for Timeranger and Murphy for Dekaranger. But I find him rather weird and innovative. Hmmm MMPR feel anyone with a better touch? First you have "Zordon", now you have "Alpha" and for a little of PRIS fee...

Thoughts on Goseiger Epic 3

Image
Goseiger Epic 3 is one cold episode... literally! Professor Shuichiro Amachi is an "amateur" astronomer, PR in Space fans may end up remembering Dr. Phenomenus but then, he offers the Goseigers part-time jobs giving him a bigger role than just comedy relief. He is also the father of the boy Nozomu. For an "amateur" he sure has some money. :-P The episode focused on trying to freeze the whole Earth. Where did I see that before? Ah yes in Fiveman where Dongoros attempts to freeze the whole Earth and the failed attempt of the Jaryuu to heat up the Earth in Boukenger. Moune, Aguri's younger sister is the one who gets focused for the episode as she tries to find the weakness of their opponent. Just love the attempt to imitate the "rider kick" she does as Gosei Yellow (good stunt person). It seems she is a tribute to Five Yellow and her brother Aguri is a tribute to Five Black though the rest of the team are not siblings in contrast to Fiveman, Gogo V...

Sentai Marks in Thuy Trang and Her Role as Trini Kwan

Image
I think while Zack Taylor was more of a reference to Battle Kenya while being a more original character, well Trini Kwan seems to blend in several past Sentai characters while having NONE of Boi's personality from Zyuranger whatsoever maybe due to gender differences. Here are some of those marks I can find. I think her first mark may be that she like Yuki Yajima (who sadly only appeared for nine episodes in Bioman) was chosen for having kick ass martial arts skills to play the part of Mika Koizumi. The character Trini Kwan was a gusty, aggressive lady with a love for nature. In the later part of the second season, she had salary disputes with Saban Entertainment just as Yuki Yajima had it with Japan Action Club, had enough and left the set. Both also had rather iconic fight scenes out of suit. Both actresses were rumored to have been fired. Another mark in Trini Kwan is the character Haruka from Maskman. There were times Trini Kwan was like less girlie in the show. Howev...
