Sentai Badass Moments: Everything About Burai During The "Green With Evil" Arc

Image
Move over Tommy! Here's where Burai really stands out in the six parter "Green with Evil" arc in Zyuranger. I just dubbed it as "Green with Evil" since I saw the MMPR counterpart first. Now Burai was evil for most of this arc. He was one badass evil indeed! Most pictures courtesy of Orends Range! So what makes Burai really badass here? Episode 17 has him released quite in the closing part BUT you cannot ignore this. Just think, he becomes Dragon Ranger, he KICKS out the Zyurangers off their mecha, releases an energy ball (sadly never done again) which the Zyurangers are forced to fight him. Worse for the Zyurangers, he is fighting them at his OWN free will! I would dare say, Burai's evil laugh is MUCH BETTER than Tommy's "mwahahahahaha!". Now I would really say episode 18 shows that Burai beats Tommy. Since when has Tommy even fought an undead knight out of suit or outclassed Goldar in a real vicious battle? Tommy's battle with Goldar...

Sentai Badass Moments: The Maskmen Drawing Out Aura Power in Times of Danger!

Image
One of the best things about Maskman aside from a lot and I mean a LOT of out-of-suit civilian fight scenes.  If you want some really badass moments for Maskman, one of them has to be that you dare to draw out your Aura Power in TIMES OF DANGER! The first instance of the Maskmen drawing out their Aura Power in times of danger was... in the third episode.  In the second episode, Commander Sugata reveals to them that they need to train to release the Aura Power from their body.  However Takeru is overly distracted with the thought of his beloved Mio THAT he cannot focus.  Now when Igam mercilessly attacks them and they couldn't transform for the moment (thanks to the Dark Holon), the Maskmen finally release their Aura Power at the MOST CRITICAL TIME!  You can't deny that was the first of many moments Maskman gets really awesome!

Sentai Badass Moment: Jun Yabuki in "Run 21,999 Seconds"!

Image
After some Sentai Comedy, I would also talk of Sentai Moment of Badass.  These are scenarios in Super Sentai that make you go, "WOAH!" when you think about it because the scene was so badass, you can't believe it.  Well even if it was too CGI filled or action-filled, you cannot deny the scene was badass.  But in this case, it's a lot of pure action over CGi and the actress Sumiko Tanaka pulls out a very dangerous stunt in here. Now I do like Mika's concept better than Jun (fortunately Mika's concept didn't die with her) but episode 16 of Bioman will be my first coverage for badass.  Jun is one awesome yellow ranger and this episode really, REALLY shows why Jun is one incredible badass.  And in this episode, she was also asked to deliver a doll to the village doctor who is really... FARRAH! The plot of the episode was where everyone but the Biomen know of Dr. Man's latest scheme to trigger Mt. Koji to erupt... which in turn will release an intensi...

Sentai Comedy: Face Swapping in Maskman!

Image
Super Sentai villains are usually known for launching convoluted schemes in their quest to achieve invasion plots, destroy humanity, etc.  Which in Maskman for a more serious series, one episode was really comical for me.  It involved one really weird scheme in Super Sentai I wish was repeated in other Super Sentai seasons. What I found funny about this is the oddity it caused... making people fight because their faces SWAPPED?!   Now I understand Tube wants to invade the surface world but swapping faces is one ridiculous plan to take over the world.

Sentai Comedy: The Bizarre Relationship Between Bowzock and Sweet Potato Jelly!

Image
Carranger itself is known for its lighthearted gags.  Although my impression of it is not really a joke series, I can't deny that the humor of the show is noteworthy.  Now let's try to examine the humor behind imo yokan which is Japanese for sweet potato jelly in Carranger! Seriously Imocho, can't you see anything wrong there?! What makes the humor so funny?  For one, most Super Sentai villains wouldn't politely buy their own sweet potato jelly from a store.  Who can imagine any Super Sentai villain for that matter being polite if they wanted sweet potato jelly?  For example, if I were a Sentai villain, I'd probably kidnap Imocho, enslave him and a bunch of people to make me some sweet potato jelly.  But no, Grotch is sent to buy some imo yokan from Imocho who for some reason, doesn't suspect anything strange about the former.  Again, I can't help but comment how unrealistic most Sentai costumes are which makes it so easy for kids to know it's ju...

Sentai Speculation: What Could Have Happened with Megaranger Behind the Scenes?

Image
Megaranger is one of my current Sentai favorites after watching it from start to end.  Now what could have happened behind Megaranger behind the scenes?  It made me think of the following of what was inside head producer Shigenori Takatera's head when he produced Megaranger. Now looking at what Taketera produced, we see he is the producer of Carranger prior to Megaranger.  Megaranger would be his second work so I would like to speculate he meddled enough to create Natsumi in Carranger close to being a season long Mika, but also split Mika's concept into two characters.  Then he meddled to get the red ranger named Kenta, to try and make some Bioman/Turboranger similarities until we finally get the amazing show that is Megaranger. That's right, Kosouku Sentai Turboranger.  The series gets itself to probably inspire Carranger (automobile motif, heck Hirohisa Soda even wrote a few episodes of that season) and later Megaranger (returning of the teenagers with ...

Sentai Comedy: The Rivalry of Hoji and Ban Having Its Funny Moments!

Image
Dekaranger despite its being a cop show... is a show you can say is filled with some well-timed humor and one can see this in Ban vs. Hoji.  Now this is really a conflict of two personalities... the reckless fireball vs. the ever dedicated professional. Now I would share my biases here... what I like about Hoji better than Sky in SPD is that, the former doesn't think he should be the red ranger nor does he whine about it.  Hoji trusts his whole group but can't stand Ban.  It's funny how Hoji can withstand Sen's eccentric nature and Umeko being childish... while it's only normal he agrees with Jasmine and Tetsu who looks up to him... but he doesn't get along with Ban.  It was later revealed that he looked up to Gyoku Rou, who was originally to be Deka Red but got too injured to serve that post. What I like Hoji is that he is a jerk with a heart of gold.  Now he's a jerk in the sense that, he can get overly strict, too trim, follow by the book BUT you ca...
